L
inda Grimes introduced aura adaptor extraordinaire Ciel Halligan in her first romantic romp,
In a Fix
. She also developed Ciel's love triangle involving bad boy Billy (her best friend and adopted cousin) and CIA agent Mark (her oldest brother's best friend).
C
iel, Billy and Mark are all
aura adaptors
, human chameleons who can change their appearance at will - into both male and female bodies. Mark's bosses know what he is, but the others keep their abilities a secret. Ciel uses her abilities to help clients as a
fixer
.
A
s this second episode,
Quick Fix
, opens, Ciel is on a job at the zoo. She's accompanied by Billy and his lively, ten-year-old sister, Molly. The job is quickly finished but then Molly, who's starting to show signs of being an adaptor, touches a baby orangutan, turns into one, and can't change back. What to do?
C
iel's geek brother James is enlisted to research the problem in his lab - which takes some time. In the meantime, Ciel is kept busy hiding Molly's problem from Mom and Auntie Mo and babysitting an orangutan. Of course, her life gets even more complicated as it fills up with dead or near dead or possibly dead bodies - and Billy is arrested for murder.
I
t's hard to tell who's who in this series as people keep inhabiting others' bodies, resulting in a French farce of a plot. Ciel knows she's really in trouble when a kiss reveals that someone she trusted is an impersonator, working for '
the wicked witch of the CIA
'.
O
f course it all works out well for Ciel in the end; she even gets to be herself for a while - until the next episode anyway. This series is fluffy but great fun.
