H
aley Warren has been estranged from her father for years; he'd left his family to marry some
gold digger
in California. She'd adored her dad but had never been able to forgive him for destroying their family. When he's killed in an explosion she's devastated. Why hadn't she taken the time to reconnect?
W
hen her stepmother calls Haley and voices her suspicions that the explosion may not have been an accident, Haley is determined to investigate. It's the least she could do for her dad. Once she arrives in Hollywood, Haley's aunt introduces her to Tyler Brodie, pointing out that he's one of the best PI's in the state. Haley hires him on the spot, despite the immediate sexual attraction they both feel. She's come to LA for answers, not a sizzling affair with the provocative PI who's way out of her league.
I
t soon becomes clear that Haley's insurance investigator dad had been asking too many questions about tens of millions of dollars worth of stolen art. When Haley's step mom is brutally attacked, it's clear that the thieves have sent out another serious warning. Even so, Haley and Ty are determined to ferret out the truth or die trying.
T
his is the 9th instalment in Martin's
Wind Canyon
series and again, she's written another nicely paced and entertaining story. The characters are appealing and the leads' romance sizzles from the moment they meet. The plotting is straightforward and barrels to a satisfying conclusion - and of course a happy ending for Haley and Tyler.
