W
hile there are more and more resources out about various LGBT topics, gender nonconformity in young children is not something that gets much press. Lori Duron sought to rectify that with her blog,
Raising My Rainbow
, chronicling life with her son CJ, who at two-and-a-half-years started to show signs of being gender nonconforming.
T
o expand upon the topic, she has now released a memoir,
Raising My Rainbow: Adventures in Raising a Fabulous, Gender Creative Son
. Duron touches on her joys and struggles with heart and humor. While she mainly focuses on gender nonconformity, she also addresses basic parenting lessons in general, making this a wonderful book for any modern parent.
R
aising My Rainbow
is also an inspiring read, as it becomes evident very quickly that CJ is perhaps the most secure person in his family - he is not afraid, like many of us, to be just who he is. This is a lesson than anyone – gender nonconforming, gender conforming, parent, non-parent, young old – can learn a lot from.
