There are hints of The Matrix as reality shifts constantly around endovoyant private investigator Heath Ransom (a former police psychic) in Jamil Nasir's Tunnel Out of Death.

After a potential client warns him that 'Reality is more malleable than you can imagine', Ransom is hired by the elderly Merrivales to bring their even older aunt out of the coma she is in. They want him to contact Margaret Biel's spirit. His staff research the matter and tell him that there has been an epidemic of sudden comas amongst super-rich elders who are also cult members.

When Ransom uses his endovoyant talents in the astral plane he's pulled through a tunnel into a different body in a new reality. Indeed this happens again and again, as he experiences the same events in new ways. He shares most of them with Vivien, an android goddess programmed to please. And he gradually comes to believe that he's caught in the middle of a struggle between two powerful forces.

But, as these events repeat, more and more of the players are revealed to be androids - what is going on? Of course, Ransom does finally figure it all out; he realizes where he is meant to be, and goes there.
