I
'm always happy to open a book published by Poisoned Pen Press. I know it's going to be a good one. In
The Flinch Factor
, Nick Moran has been found dead, slumped in his truck which is parked on an isolated lane known by the sobriquet
Gay Way
. The women who had known Nick when he did renovations on their homes simply do not believe that Nick was gay. His actions while in their homes makes them think otherwise.
N
ick's sister Susannah approaches savvy attorney Rachel Gold. Susannah thinks foul play is responsible for her brother's death not the drugs that were found in his system. She is sure it's not an accidental overdose. In looking into the allegations, some of Rachel's investigations makes her feel that there is an odd connection to what she calls
The Frankenstein Case
. This case would involve a powerful developer making a great deal of money while many people were bulldozed out of their homes. Things get dicey and Rachel fears for her own safety as well as that of her family.
A
uthor Michael Kahn has a finely tuned sense of humor and he gives it full rein in
The Flinch Factor
. His Judge Flinch is reason enough to read the book. Rachel is a cool character who has a friend named Benny Goldberg, who is a friend indeed and in need. Her best friend Jacki is a true delight.
T
he Flinch Factor
is well worth the read. Pure fun – but also made me hope I never come up against the law. A courtroom performance is more like a badly written play.
