It may be called Shady Rest but there's nothing relaxing or restful about this little town. Three marshals have been gunned down in as many months and when the fourth bites the dust, Matt Jensen just happens to be present and makes sure the gunman also goes to his heavenly reward.

For Matt, this balancing of the scales of justice (western style), is just the right thing to do but he'll benefit financially too since the desperado had a $5,000 bounty on his head. Now all Matt has to do is stay alive long enough to collect!

The dead man has some very dangerous friends who will make sure Shady Rest and Matt will pay for what's happened to their buddy. Matt should probably high-tail it out of town pronto, but he's sort of curious how the new marshal will do. Dressmaker Annabel O'Callahan has stepped forward and taken the job no one wants. She figures no self respecting gunslinger would shoot a woman. Perhaps not, but what about a female desperado?

Figuring the little lady may need some help keeping the peace, Matt stays on in Shady Rest and the end result is the deadliest shootout the town has ever seen. (And that's saying a lot, pardner!)

A traditional western in every sense, this latest Matt Jensen adventure ends, as it should, with the hero riding out of town with perhaps a wistful look back at the gorgeous gal he's leaving behind. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do, though, and in the Mountain Man's case that means answering the call of the trail.

If you like western yarns with plenty of action, you'll love this series and after just reading one or two of Jensen's adventures you'll become quite attached to this likeable loner.
