ust before World War I, on Halloween, a young woman's frozen body is found with a piece of material covering her battered face. Since then, there have been reports of seeing her ghost (
Faceless Woman
) walking the fields and paths around the estate of Ravenbank each Halloween.
A
copycat murder occurred five years ago, again on Halloween. Battered face covered with an old blanket. Now a third murder has happened. Battered face and blanket covering that poor, mutilated visage. Can't be the original murderer. Too long ago. But could the five year-old killing and the current one be connected?
H
annah Scarlett, head of the Cold Case Review Team, looks into the mystery. Helping her is a co-worker – he happens to be her main squeeze also, but they prefer to keep that quiet.
A
bonus of
The Frozen Shroud
is that the reader is treated to descriptions of the lovely Lake Country of northern England, as well as a look at an old mansion and its environs. Well worth the read. The plot takes an unusual turn with many characters to keep straight. Be vigilant. All of them play a vital part in the story.
