Yesterday's Echo is a first novel by Matt Coyle. Could've fooled me. So full of suspense, I was almost tempted to peek at the ending. Glad I didn't.

Rick Cahill had, in his previous life, been accused of murdering his wife. Authorities, unable to prove his guilt, were forced to release him. But he was not exonerated and so the tag of wife killer clung to him. Ten years later finds him working in a restaurant in San Diego, slowly buying into a partnership with the owner, Turk.

Life is not bad for Rick, but certainly not as good as when his wife was alive. A glamorous TV reporter walks into the establishment and into his life. She is in trouble and, of course, Rick tries to come to her rescue. He assists a politician's wife when she has imbibed more than she should have. He encounters an ex-casino boss as well as a bent cop.

Everything starts to go wrong and Rick finds himself the object of a manhunt. If the suspense is starting to get to you, just wait. You're in for a rocky ride. Can Rick get his life back together? Can he find someone with which to share his life? Read on. I, for one, am looking forward to the next Rick Cahill adventure.
