ish McComb moves from Michigan to Noble, Alabama, not knowing that the name of McComb is a bad word in that Southern town. She has been able to buy her great-great-great-grandparent's home and hangs their wedding picture in a prominent spot.
T
hen she learns that the McCombs were considered carpetbaggers after the Civil War ended - those hordes of northerners who moved in and took advantage of Noble residents who had suffered great losses due to the war. Southern memories die hard. She is not welcomed, but she has brought someone into her home who also is not well thought of – taking in a prodigal daughter of a big shot in the small town. The girl has nowhere to go. Her family threw her out.

is a lesson in spunk and determination, companioned with a great deal of compassion and understanding.
