F
ormer Phoenix Deputy Mapstone and his old friend, ex-Sheriff Mike Peralta have opened a private detective agency in Phoenix, Arizona. Their first client tells them that he doesn't believe the police when they tell him that his sister committed suicide – jumping from a high balcony, nude and wearing handcuffs! He wants the new agency to look into her death. He is gunned down when exiting their office! What a way to start a new business.
M
apstone finds the young woman's boyfriend who is caring for their baby. Before the boyfriend can get out of town, he bites the dust. Someone is killing their clients. But who? And an even bigger question, why? The plot moves into human trafficking, corrupt politics, as well as a white supremacist group. A wide spectrum which all comes together at the end of a trail of dead bodies.
I
t's obvious author Jon Talton loves the Arizona desert.
The Night Detectives
is worth the read just for his descriptive words extolling his love for the area. He is also in love with Phoenix with all its warts. His prose captures the beaches of San Diego. (I'll have to put them on my bucket list.) Throw in a wonderful mystery and you have a book not to be missed.
T
alton is the author of ten novels. Check them out. They are all worth a read.
