Hosting a birthday party for her twin step daughters - with all of her husband's ex-in-laws attending - is not Alison Bergeron's idea of a good time. But being who she is, the party is a great success, especially for the twins. Their estranged Uncle Chick wants to make up for lost time so he hands each girl a cheque for five thousand dollars.

Bobby Crawford (the girls' father) and Christine (the ex wife) agree that the gift is a bit too much and head down to Uncle Chick's apartment to give it back. When they get there, they not only find Uncle Chick dead but also discover two hundred and fifty thousand dollars stuffed under the mattress. Though Uncle Chick's demise is ruled a suicide, Christine and Alison have their suspicions. As Alison digs deeper, she just might uncover family secrets that are better off staying buried.

You have to love Alison's character. She is a teacher, not a private investigator, and some of her antics are priceless. All in all, Extra Credit is a good mystery, well planned and executed with characters you love to hate or hate to love.
