H
olt Hawkins is a bounty hunter searching for Mira Toombs on an Earth taken over by aliens (the
Assembly
). Anyone nearing their early twenties is reduced to total subservience by the
Tone
, a very powerful telepathic signal (a very few are immune to it).
S
o only children and young teenagers are able to resist the aliens. Even though Holt needs Mira to ensure his own survival, he did not expect the immediate strong connection he feels with her. Also unexpected is their finding a small girl in an Assembly crash site - the only thing she can remember is that her name is Zoey.
N
ow the three of them, plus a dog named Max, need to make a journey to Midnight City. They must outrun Assembly members who are chasing them and seem very interested in Zoey. Indeed it looks like Zoey might be the key to saving the human race from the Assembly once and for all. All they need to do is survive.
T
his is impressive for a debut novel, grabbing the attention early and holding it throughout. I was hooked and totally lost to the world until I turned the last page of this action packed journey. I found
Midnight City
excellent and am looking forward to the second episode of this apocalyptic adventure.
