E
ven though there is a goodly amount of violence in H. Terrell Griffin's
Fatal Decree
, another in the Matt Royal series, this is a delightful book.
A
serial killer shows up in Matt's personal paradise, Longboat Key, Florida. Matt, retired and loving his new life style finds it hard to believe murder has found its way to his peaceful new home. Especially when the victim is the wife of a friend!
M
att's best friend, Jock, works for a secret government agency. Things go from bad to worse. J. D. Duncan, Matt's good friend (whom he wishes was more than that) is the only official detective on Longboat Key. She becomes a target as does Matt. The murders seem to have a connection to serial killings twelve years prior in a different locale. Jock, J.D. and Matt join forces although J.D. needs to prove she can take care of herself.
T
he story line becomes more twisted while keeping the light humor intact. The reader must pay attention. More characters appear as well as more motivations for the killings.
Fatal Decree
is a good mystery that will keep you on the edge of your chair.
