Shakespeare Shaken
, Shakespeare's works are completely redone in numerous comic vignettes and pin-ups. Each work is unique and none of the artists have even similar styles, making this a wonderful compilation of not only Shakepeare-inspired stories, but also amazing serial art work.
W
hile I enjoyed every piece for one reason or another, three really stood out. First is Alex Cormack's
The Hamlen Murders
which combines
Hamlet
and
Macbeth
in a modern yet vintage comic style. Next is
The Play Is the Thing
by Shaun Noel and Andre Frattino. Frattino's highly-colored Sunday-funnies-like artwork plays well with Noel's story about a high school basketball team made up of famous Shakespeare characters. Last but not least, is Jeremy Whitley and Gabriel Dunston's
Zombie Hamlet
. Whitley's incredibly comic zombification of
Hamlet
along with Dunston's black, white, and red illustrations make the perfect, memorable ending to this anthology.
S
erial art fans who are familiar with Shakespeare's works will appreciate
Shakespeare Shaken
. The varying artwork alone makes it worth it.
