as the second in the YA
Sky Chasers
series. The ship Empyrean is now the home of orphans who are running things. Kieran has anointed himself captain and prides himself on being strict. His ex-girlfriend Waverly does not like the decisions he has made so far. In particular she disagrees with his locking up Seth, who started a
mutiny
and was given no trial. But soon Seth is free and in hiding somewhere on the ship.
S
ince returning to the Empyrean after a desperate escape from the enemy ship (leaving captive parents behind), Waverly has been ridiculed and taunted by her peers. It does not help when Kieran accuses her of aiding Seth, the ship's enemy. There's a death and Waverly needs to team up with Seth to find the culprit. But trusting him proves hard, if not impossible. They must work together or the pending conflict with the enemy ship might kill them all.
T
his is a book that holds your attention right to the very end. I found it reminded me of William Golding's
Lord of the Flies
, which I read in high school many years ago. I loved the book back then and I enjoyed this one now. It gives a very realistic portrayal of how a bunch of kids would struggle to have power.
