The Second Rule of Ten follows The First Rule of Ten in the delightful Dharma Detective series by Gay Hendricks and Tinker Lindsay. Tenzing Norbu started life as a Buddhist monk at his father's monastery in Dharamshala. He grew up, yearning to be Sherlock Holmes. After working in a Los Angeles outreach program teaching meditation to teens, Ten joined the LAPD.

In The First Rule of Ten, he left the police force to become a PI, to the dismay of his friend and partner, Bill Bohannon. In his new role, Ten is often helped by electronics genius Mike Koenigs, as well as by his ex-partner. His first job involved a bizarre cult, a music royalty scam, and serial killings.

In addition to solving his cases, Ten works on life-rules, which he shares with his old friends Yeshe and Lobsang back at the monastery. In this second episode he vows to be on the lookout for unconscious beliefs that prevent him from understanding what is actually happening in his life. But Ten's letters to Yeshe and Lobsang are being returned to sender - what is going on?

Ten learns that a recent client, big Hollywood producer Marvin Rudolph has been murdered, a tattoo cut off his arm. Though he has no client, Ten starts digging. He's hired by Julius Rosen, 'one of the city's richest philanthropists', to find a long lost sister, and threatened by a drug cartel. Ten gets a little better at romance. He makes peace with his father and visits his old friends once more, before he's engulfed in violence.

This second in the Dharma Detective series is just as appealing as the first, with a likeable hero, a convoluted mystery, and life lessons to learn along the way - enjoy!
