The Wrong Hill to Die On is author Donis Casey's sixth novel in her award-winning series starring Alafair Tucker.

Alafair and her husband Shaw have ten children! When ten-year old Blanche was unable to shrug off her cough, her parents decided to take her to visit Alafair's sister Elizabeth in Arizona. In 1916, it was no easy task to travel so far from their home in Oklahoma. Their older children stayed back to care for the littler ones. After too many adventures to suit them, the three arrived in Tempe where they hoped that the warmth and dry air would clear Blanche's lungs.

But life is never simple and Alafair and Shaw find themselves enmeshed in Pancho Villa's threatening to attack across the border of Mexico into Arizona. Are local Mexicans - who escaped Villa's wrath and now live in the Tempe area - secretly helping Villa by supplying him with guns and supplies? Have the Yaqui Indians been involved in this also, even though they fled Villa and now live on land that allows them a communal life?

Alafair finds her sister in an unhappy life. Her neighbor Cindy acts as though she were a rabbit who is trying to go into hiding. What have Alafair and Shaw fallen into?

The history embedded in this informative story reveals more than I ever knew about the Southwest just before World War I. Facts are woven into the story line with ease, and add depth to the times depicted. The Wrong Hill to Die On is a really good read.
