T
he Son-in-Law
is the first issue of
The Unprofessionals: A Sociopathic Bromance
created by Alexis Cruz and Colin Rankine. The series title pretty much says it all.
The Unprofessionals
concerns two best buds who decide to make their college fund through being ninja assassins, although neither has skills in either. Dangerously armed with a mail-order Special Ops Handbook and some horrible disguises, the two decide to take on some New York gangsters ... with mixed results.
T
he idea is a fun and different one, and the two main characters, Jake and Leo, truly give meaning to the idiom about idle hands being the devil's playground. What really makes
The Unprofessionals
stand out, though, is Chris Moreno's incredible inking and Kate Glasheen's colors. The bright, watery colors are in direct contrast to the subject matter and serve to add unimaginable depth to the story. Dark comedy comic book fans looking for something different will definitely want to check out
The Unprofessionals
.
