With throngs of hungry paparazzi waiting outside the small town church for any hint of a juicy scoop (and wouldn't Lucy's stunt make some lucky pap's career!), she dons a flimsy disguise and makes her hasty exit - and fortuitously manages to hitch a ride out of town with a rough-looking, foul tempered biker. As they ride off into the Texas sunset, Lucy quickly wonders if she made a terrible mistake. This mannerless thug who introduces himself as Panda could be a serial killer for all she knows if his hair trigger temper and surly attitude are any indication. Better to be at the mercy of this dangerous looking stranger though, than spend another moment living her perfect life, surrounded by the usual cadre of perfect people and, worst of all, trapped in a marriage to a man everyone considers her perfect match. Against his better judgement her surly saviour, Panda, agrees to let Lucy stay at his rambling Great Lakes beach house to remake herself and find a new direction for her life. But as the hot summer days unfold and they find more excuses to spend time together, these two imperfect characters begin to realise that they might just be the perfect match. I've been a long time fan of Susan Elizabeth Phillips and always find myself waiting impatiently for her newest release. She's never disappointed and has created another winner in The Great Escape. The story is brimming over with her usual blend of troubled and quirky characters, plenty of drama, great touches of humour, and best of all, Lucy and Panda's unexpected and bumpy road to true love.
