The setting is Sturgis, South Dakota. The time three is in the morning. Liv Bergen, who was advised to stop by the hospital, is being driven home by two FBI agents after tangling with a motorcycle gang. She's nearly been killed twice in the last eight days. Those cases are solved, but Agent Streeter Pierce is about to dive back into an ongoing serial murder case that has been years in the making, and Liv will find herself involved in that case as well. While chaos and murder break out around them, Liv and Agent Pierce are falling in love.

Meanwhile, Helma Henson is being murdered. The killer finds her in the hospice, covers her face with a pillow, and recites a children's rhyme while he waits for her to die. 'In a crooked little house ...' Helma does not choose to die that day, but she wouldn't have been able to hold him off much longer had help not arrived.

Widow's Might continues where the second Liv Bergen novel, Lot's Return to Sodom, ended, leaving little or no time between the novels. At first you feel as if you've been dropped into the middle of the story. Fortunately, it doesn't take long to get up to speed, but if you have the opportunity, read the first two books in the series before this one. References to the past try not to be spoilers but you always feel like you're missing a puzzle piece.

Liv Bergen is a strong and unique narrator. She helps run the family mines. She loves being a miner, but she's been asked to attend training at the FBI in Quantico as a dog handler. The reason is not given in this novel, but we are led to understand that it had something to do with the case just closed. For thriller lovers, the continued action drags you in and for puzzle lovers the mystery itself will hook you.
