F
airstein was '
chief of the Sex Crimes Unit of the district attorney's office in Manhattan for more than twenty years and is America's foremost legal expert on sexual assault and domestic violence
'. She writes crime novels that have been translated into more than a dozen languages!! She's glamorous, too.
A
lexandra Cooper – remember her from other novels by Fairstein? – arrives in Mougins, France to spend some down time with her lover, Luc Rouget, the famed restaurateur who is planning to open a new/old restaurant in Manhattan – the famed Lutece run by his father for many years.
A
lex's and Luc's plans go awry when someone is found murdered in Manhattan and she, a member of the city's crime force, must return, cutting into her time with Luc. A woman is found dead near Luc's business in Mougins with a calling card from Luc's restaurant in her pocket. And the man in Manhattan has a matchbox with Luc's logo on it in one of his pockets!
T
he plot of this cleverly twisted novel takes the reader on an intriguing trip through both France and Manhattan while suspense builds with each page. Could Luc be involved somehow with the murders? What about the head of the World Economic Bureau who has been accused by a hotel maid of assault and rape? Sound familiar? And where do Luc's money backers for the new venture fit in here?
I
simply can't reveal any more of this splendid new novel. I shall only say that it is not to be missed. Enjoy it. I did.
