o add to his four previous novels placed in the fictional town of Ballybucklebo in Northern Ireland, author Patrick Taylor has produced another of the wonderful series featuring Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly and Barry Laverty, as well as Mrs. Kinky Kincaid.
L
averty has only six months to apprentice to O'Reilly in order to become a partner in O'Reilly's practice. There appears a slight hitch in his plans when his girlfriend, soon to be fiancée, reveals that she is not cut out to be the wife of a country doctor.
C
ut to the bone by this news, poor Laverty isn't sure that he really wants to be a country doctor. He questions his future plans while he tries to stop reeling over losing the person with whom he wanted to share his future.
C
ontinuing with the inhabitants of Ballybucklebo, Taylor relates their daily life and aches and pains. Their concern for the two doctors touches a spot in Laverty's heart.
S
peaking of hearts, O'Reilly, after years of widowerhood, has his eye on an old flame. His trying to conjure up the courage to tell her that he loves her is tender as well as humorous.

his delightful series, that deals with Ballybucklebo residents and not the Troubles that have plagued this small island, is a real treat.
