On the surface, Cat Patrick's sci-fi thriller Revived is about a miracle drug that brings people back from the dead. Underneath that, it is a story about friendship and morality, and that is what makes it such a wonderful read.

When she was four, Daisy died in a bus accident on her way to her private school. Of the twenty-one kids on the bus, fourteen were brought back to life with the experimental drug, Revive. Now eleven years later, Daisy has been revived five times, having to move with her secret agent parents after each, becoming a new Daisy in a new school. Her latest move brings her to Omaha, where on the first day of school, she meets the exuberant Audrey who quickly befriends her. Not only does Daisy find herself with her first real friend who is not a bus kid, but also her first boyfriend, Audrey's brother Matt. However, when Daisy learns a secret about Audrey, it makes her question her entire existence and the moral ramifications of Revive.

Revived is full of fast-paced suspense that really makes you think about the effects Revive could have on the world, and the effect it might have on its makers. Luckily, these thoughts keep the reader's mind occupied so that some of the small inconsistencies and unexplained plot points are almost unnoticeable. What also helps is how loveable Daisy and her friends are; they may be obvious characters, but they are fun ones to whom it is easy to get emotionally attached.

Revived is indeed an exciting page-turner. Cat Patrick pulls out all the stops to craft a fun suspense full of realistic sci-fi and life questions. This is a great summer read.
