Escape is no exception. Emily Aulenbach has had enough. Working for a very large law firm, she spends her days trying to encourage victims of corporate greed to settle for less than they have lost. She takes the bull by the horns and walks out of her office. Going home, she takes her husband's BMW and takes off for who knows where. She doesn't. After hours of driving north from Manhattan, she arrives in Bell Valley, New Hampshire, where an old friend of hers runs an inn with her husband. Deliberate? Maybe. She spent a wonderful summer there many years before. She felt she needed a break. She was burnt out from doing a job she didn't want to do. Having no time for herself or her husband. She needed to feel free. To breathe. To clear her head. Delinsky pinpoints a big problem with today's world. No one has time anymore to do anything but put in long hours on their jobs. Life has to hold more than this. Maybe you can see yourself in Emily Aulenbach. Maybe not. I don't think Delinsky is telling you to do as Emily did, but to re-evaluate your life and free up more time for yourself and your loved ones. Good advice. I wish my late husband had thought that way. Maybe he wouldn't have died so young. All and all, Escape is a great read. Just as I expected when I turned the first page.
