As the name suggests, this gallery of color photos features examples of all the major types of rolling stock used in both freight and passenger operations.

Over 200 photos show various types of flatcars, boxcars, tank cars, hoppers, intermodal units, and maintenance-of–way equipment. You'll also find coaches, dining cars, sleepers, observation and parlor cars, and cabooses in this comprehensive collection carrying the logos of a number of North American railroads.

Each section begins with a two page overview of the development of the type of rolling stock before you get to the specific examples. The author tries to also provide a sense of the historical development of each type of car by selecting a wide range of examples.

With Father's Day not that far off, this might be a book to keep in mind for that armchair engineer in the family!
