How to Calm Down tells us how to reduce stress - at any time, anywhere. It describes a variety of calming techniques starting from simple breathe-in, breathe-out exercises, and moving on to visualization and self-focus. It also describes the general resistance of our minds to change, shows that it requires us to take just one step to overcome that inertia, and explains the resultant tremendous payoff from that step.

In this small volume, Fred L. Miller describes simple techniques to let go of your steam, in the daily grind of life. These are not new techniques. In fact some of them are already being followed involuntarily by us - such as counting to ten when angry, or breathing in and out deeply when under pressure. It is Miller's simplistic, one-step-at-a-time approach that encourages the reader to give it a try. Although some exercises may seem repetitive, Miller provides an in-depth explanation of mind control and self improvement in layman's terms. He also gives repeated personal assurances of beneficial results. After trying some of these exercises, I found that some gave instantaneous results, while others needed to be done repeatedly over a period of time to be effective.

Overall, and especially in these stressful times, How To Calm Down is a useful book to own, since many of these exercises can be done at any time and anywhere, whether you are relaxing in your favorite chair, working at your desk, driving, or even in bed.
