n the second of author Jon Talton's
Cincinnati Casebook
series, readers become reacquainted with Homicide Detective Will Borders. Because of the removal of a benign tumor on his spinal cord, he now walks with a limp, uses a cane, and suffers constant discomfort.
W
hile his physical condition seemingly consumes him, he manages to still function, although as a public information officer instead of as a detective.
W
ill feels useless in his job and thinks of himself as a cripple. However, when a police officer is slain, he investigates as though he were still a detective.
H
e has the help of an old acquaintance, Cheryl Beth Wilson, who was his pain nurse after his surgery. After the cop killing, two young women were found dead, slashed to ribbons. The killer strikes again, killing a young man. Will is threatened, told that he's next.

his plot is intricate but easily followed. I had no idea who the culprit might be and was surprised to find at the ending that I was way off base.

he author's love of Cincinnati pulses through the story and prompted me to put this city on my
