by James Sallis follows his novel entitled
Drive
. In the latter, Driver killed Bernie Rose, the last of the friends who double-crossed him. No man will do that to Driver and live.

even years later, Driver wants to change his life. He's done with killing and driving - legitimate passengers on legal errands, as well as villains to their nefarious destinations to commit criminal deeds. He wants an uncomplicated existence. While living in Phoenix as Paul West, he and his fiancée are attacked. He kills the two men responsible but his fiancée is left dead.

e seeks anonymity while hooking up again with his old friend Felix, ex-gangbanger and Desert Storm vet. Driver's past has caught up with him and he must face it. He drives once more. To what end, even he is not sure. Felix helps him reshape his old life. To the better? Felix is stuffed with advice and platitudes. It's up to Driver to make use of his words.

his is a short novel but packed with action. And is it ever action! Almost makes one want to take a serious martial arts course just to try out these cool moves. But at eighty with brittle bones, I think I'll just imagine myself taking down the bad guys.
