iolet McGinn loves her mother and her entourage of weird friends dearly, but once she finished high school, she wasted little time in putting plenty of distance between herself and Moonbeam. Okay, so Violet moved all the way across the continent, but she always visits on important holidays.
N
ow she's a successful accountant, determined to continue ignoring her mother's ridiculous insistence that Violet '
has the gift
'. But when Moonbeam lands in the hospital it's up to Violet to keep her mother's psychic business in the black.
D
rew Watson is genuinely sorry that Moonbeam's laid up for a couple of weeks, but also secretly relieved. She's never liked the fact that he runs a male strip club next door to her psychic salon. He's eager for a break from Moonbeam's continuous censure - until he meets her sexy daughter, Violet.
D
rew soon learns that she's more sceptical about the paranormal than he is. As for Violet, it doesn't take her long to figure out just what kind of an establishment the sexy businessman is running. Not that she's into that kind of thing - she's got enough on her plate trying to fake her way through psychic appointments. It soon becomes difficult to concentrate with Drew popping over all the time and then things get downright odd when certain heavy metal tunes she hears thumping next door seem to be the catalyst to her solving a police investigation, or mending a client's lovelorn heart.
V
iolet knows it's all just coincidence, just like her growing attraction to Drew. She has no time for a relationship and Drew isn't ready to tackle another high maintenance woman. So why is it so difficult for them to mind their own businesses??
W
hile not quite as over-the-top and funny as Fenske's debut novel,
Making Waves
, there's still plenty to smile about in
Believe It Or Not
, particularly if you love zippy dialogue laden with sexual innuendo and especially if you remember grooving to the metal music of the 80's and 90's. Make a date to spend some time with Violet and Drew and a host of oddball characters in
Believe It Or Not
.
