Looking over his abandoned temple on the banks of the Nile, he comes across a woman fishing with a net. Captivated by her voice and beauty, Bek asks to join her when she takes lunch. He finds out that she is the daughter of a scribe and also the last priestess of his temple. Her name is Merys, and she is still pure, as there was no dowry to marry her off. Bek is drawn to Merys even though their union is forbidden by the laws of the Gods. There must be no joining of a human and a God or there will serious consequences. Bek was already punished once for being lax about his duties regarding the Nile. He tries to stay away, but cannot. One day he comes across Merys being attacked by a crocodile and saves her. Of course fate has something else in mind - a mutual desire that must not be denied. Priestess of the Nile is a short, sweet novella, and a pretty good romance all in all. It has the odd little twist here and there, which makes you feel for the two main characters.
