amily Circle's
Eat What You Love & Lose
contains over 250 Lo-Cal recipes to help us to lose weight and at the same time be happy with the food we eat. The test crew of Family Circle's kitchen realized they were piling up the pounds and decided to work together to develop recipes that would help them lose weight and still allow them to eat tasty foods. Did it work? In four months, six people lost over 140 pounds! Yep. It worked. First, though, they all had to accept that there is no magic pill - it's all in the calories. Eat 3500 more calories than you need and you gain a pound. Eat 3500 calories less and you lose a pound. That's the way it is. No getting around it. So after coming to grips with this, move on to the recipes, with promises of two snacks a day and good tasting food.
I
'm a salad freak, so I can visualize myself trying each of the great salads with their suggested diet dressings:
Gazpacho Salad with Feta
,
Herb Chicken with Warm Vinaigrette
,
Orange Chicken & Peanut Salad
, to name a few. Pasta! My dream food -
Penne with Cherry Tomatoes
,
Smoked Mozarella and Basil
,
Chunky Veggie Sauce with Penne
,
Rigatoni with
(are you ready?) that lovely Italian bleu cheese,
Gorgonzola Sauce
. Be still my heart. This section also has tips on cooking and serving sizes for various pastas. Simply Sensational Soups and Fish & Seafood follow Pasta. There are too many great recipes to list, but keep in mind that each is worth cooking even if you don't need to lose weight. Chicken is always welcome on my plate, perhaps as
Chicken Breasts with Mustard Caper Sauce
, or my late friend's signature dish
Lemon Chicken
. I intend to try the
Chicken Burger
.
T
he meat section has great recipes that might make me stray from my quasi-vegetarian ways:
Wine-Marinated Grilled Sirloin
,
Apple Marinated Pork Tenderloin
or
Marinated Rib Lamb Chops
. Desserts on a diet? Sure. Why not? How does
One Crust Fresh Peach
pie sound? Works for me. Even
Tiramisu
makes an appearance. Indulge a chocolate tooth with super recipes. Eat sweets without guilt. There are ideas for Breakfast and Lunch. If you thought you'd have to give up
Huevos Rancheros
, think again. This book means I can eat
Orange Poppy Seed Muffins
and not have to hide in a closet to do it. There are super ideas for Hors D'oeuvres and Dips, like
Bleu Cheese Dip
(bring on the raw veggies),
Pesto Cheese Spread
, and
Sesame Chicken with Dipping Sauce
.
W
eight saving tips advise on how to survive a social occasion without blowing all your hard work. Nutritional information follows each recipe. There are wonderful color photographs of some of the dishes in the center of the book. Others in black and white lose in the transition. Losing weight doesn't mean you have to give up all that's good in life -
Eat What You Love & Lose
will show you how.
