A
uthor Jane Yolen and artist Rebecca Guay have created a stunning new fairy tale with
The Last Dragon
. In it, Tansy, the daughter of the town's healer, must use her wits to fight the dragon who killed her father.
T
he town wants a dragon slayer, but as the dragon wars ended with the annihilation of the wyrms centuries ago, they must settle for Lancot, a man who is all talk and no action. Together, though, the two find a way to overcome all odds in this charming story for young adults and the young at heart.
I
n a short span of pages, Yolen brings forth a fully-formed world with well-developed characters. This is helped greatly by Guay's beautiful, darker drawings. They say a picture's worth a thousand words, and that is definitely true in
The Last Dragon
.
I
t reads like a bedtime story, but Jane Yolen and Rebecca Guay have breathed more life into it than any mere picture book could contain. This is a graphic novel that should proudly be displayed on any fantasy fan's shelf.
