Unleashed: Amaveo Legend    by Sara Humphreys Order:  USA  Can Sourcebooks Casablanca, 2011 (2011) Paperback Read an Excerpt     Reviewed by Martina Bexte Sara Humphreys presents the first in her Amaveo Legend series, introducing yet another heroine who's unaware of her background and a hero who needs her to fulfill the life bond, and who's also part of a brotherhood of paranormal shape shifters. Samantha Logan lost her parents at a young age and was raised by her doting grandmother. When her artistic endeavours don't pan out, she leaves New York and heads back to the small seaside town where she grew up. That she finds herself unreasonably attracted to her handsome and sexy neighbour Malcolm is an unexpected and delightful bonus to coming home. Malcolm is eager to introduce Sam to her true nature and role as his life mate. He has, after all, been waiting for her a long time. He can finally show her the magic of dream walking and shape shifting and introduce her to the other clans. But there are those who want to destroy the Amaveo - who think of them as dangerous aberrations. As the enemy closes in, Samantha and Malcolm's newfound love could well be destined for tragedy before they've even bonded. The author injects various small twists into her shifter mythology and she tells her story well. The romance between the leads is nicely done, despite Samantha perhaps being a bit too accepting of her true nature. Malcolm too, seemed rather overbearing at times, given his penchant for spying on Samantha while in bird form. Overall the story held my interest, but isn't one that truly stands out from all the others with similar storylines and characters. On the other hand, if you can't get enough of paranormal brotherhood series, then Unleashed should satisfy your craving, as will the next few instalments in the Amaveo series.
