I
am totally exhausted. I have been running full tilt trying to keep up with the action in Dennis Palumbo's
Fever Dream
. Well, you understand, I'm not really running, full tilt or otherwise. But turning the pages of this book counts as exercise.
T
he action never stops. Just when the heart stops racing from a shootout in a bank, a suicide occurs. Catch your breath and there's a kidnapping. Death threats figure in while a politician's promises rake the air as he pledges to clean up crime in Pittsburgh. A barn fire threatens the accompanying house.
T
he ending of this decidedly top drawer work is a total surprise. (Note here - I did know who was involved before I got too far into the book but didn't anticipate the intricacies of the case.)
P
alumbo is a character you can like. He's a dedicated clinical psychologist who is on call to the police department when they need a psychologist's assistance. Which apparently happens a little too often for Palumbo's liking or that of certain members of the city's police force.
F
ever Dream
follows Palumbo's first novel
Mirror Image
. He has a good thing going here. I do hope Palumbo returns in another mystery. Soon, please.
