Hot Water by Erin Brockovich is so full of suspense, it's almost hard to breathe while following the latest exploits of AJ Palladino. I truly found it hard to put this down for anything but a very real emergency – like a tsunami, earthquake, or possibly a nuclear explosion. Speaking of nuclear explosions, AJ is caught up in the problems of a plant that produces nuclear isotopes. Leaks have been occurring, and the local populace is sure they will contaminate their town. While AJ toils in South Carolina to bring some sanity to protesters who are making life difficult for the pompous owner of the plant, back at her home in West Virginia, her son's grandfather is trying to get court mandated visits with her son. The man is not in the upper register of people who are good and honest. In fact, he has hired a hit man to do away with AJ. Her grandmother is in a diabetic coma, her parents' house has burned down - and her son has disappeared. As if that weren't enough, a hurricane is heading for the coast of South Carolina with the possibility of a tornado to follow. Fun, hunh? This scenario may sound like the Perils of Pauline, but I find it very good writing, giving readers the thrill of the week while at the same handing them things to think about. Including the real purpose of the leaders of a protest, as well as the fanaticism of some of these leaders' followers. Hot Water is a good book with good content. Don't miss it.
