ewelry designer Garet James is in love with Will Hughes, a vampire. Garet is one of the last of a group of women sworn to protect the world from evil. She is used to the unusual, so when a painting shows up anonymously at her parents' home, she realizes it is a sign. Will has been missing for months now on a quest to become mortal again so that he can be with her. Now she heads to Paris and waits in an ancient church. Garet worries that she will never lay her eyes upon Will again.

uring Garet's journey, she meets many different creatures, including an ancient botanist, Jean Robin, who has become one of the oldest trees in Paris. He gives her advice on how to get to the summer country, which leads her to a gnome and then to a librarian at the Institut Oceanographique. The quest continues with a dryad in Luxembourg Gardens. As Garet's adventure evolves, she is learning and struggling with who she is and her family legacy, and with each answer more questions and dangers arise. In the meantime we find out about Will Hughes and how he became a vampire in 1602.

The Watchtower
excellent, and well thought out. It was quite amazing how the two stories intertwined with one another. Lee's imagination leaves no question marks in your mind. Her description of landscape is realistic to the point of feeling that you are there. If you love fantasy, a bit of romance and a darn good tale, Lee is a storyteller you will add to your shelves.
