Any middle grade reader looking for something light and fun now that school has started should pick up Kirk Scroggs's hilarious Tales of a Sixth-Grade Muppet. This funny story will delight fans of middle school, mayhem, and, of course, Muppets.

Danvers Blickensderfer wants nothing more than to be like his hero, The Great Gonzo, which is why he is psyched for the upcoming Fall on Ice Festival for which each school gets to send an act. However, popular boy band Emo Shun is picked over his idea for a death-defying stunt show featuring him pogo-sticking in a moonbounce being blown up by his best friend, Pasquale, all while ninjas are hula-hooping with razor-edged hula-hoops. Disappointed, Danvers goes home that evening and wishes to be like Gonzo. After a green flash of light fills his room a little after midnight, he wakes up as a Muppet! At first, he is disconcerted, but he quickly finds himself on the way to fame and stardom when he is accepted into the Muppet Theatre, interning under Gonzo himself. However, there is still the matter of finding out what turned him into a Muppet. And with all of his new friends, is there still room for Pasquale?

Aside from being a laugh-out-loud story with comical illustrations and asides throughout, Tales of a Sixth-Grade Muppet is also a story about friendship and learning to accept yourself great lessons for any sixth-grade human. There were a few chronological confusions, which probably would have easily gone unnoticed if the pace was not as fast as any of the stunts Danvers or Gonzo try to achieve throughout. And kudos to Kirk Scroggs for a slightly unexpected ending. Pick it up today and laugh at the antics of Danvers, Pasquale, and their Muppet friends.
