L
ady Julianne Gatewick is a beautiful young woman entering her fourth season in the ton. She has declined numerous proposals. Her heart was captured at age eight by the handsome Earl of Hawkfield. Lady Julianne now finds herself in a bit of a mess, since Hawkfield has agreed to act as her guardian for the season. Her first waltz ever was in the arms of the Earl, and a risqué waltz it was - the whole ton stood and applauded for them, as they did not realize the music had stopped. To make matters worse the Earl of Hawkfield made his brotherly feelings for her clear.
T
o hide her humiliation, and to help other young ladies capture the hearts of the rakes and scoundrels out there, she decides to write a pamphlet on seduction. Once the hot pamphlet is published it forments scandal. No man in London will ever be safe again.
H
awk, the Earl has a problem of his own - his charming, beautiful, luscious ward is his best friend's sister. He has to maintain his honor (even rakes have honor) and knows she is forbidden fruit. But he constantly dreams of ravishing her. Hawk has stayed away from the altar for all these years - has he met his match in Lady Julianne and her laughing blue eyes?
I
am sure we all had a childhood love, and Vicky Dreiling makes it very realistic with witty dialogue and humor. I loved the manner in which the leads teased and played with each other throughout the book, while secondaries added to the fun. I also enjoyed the way the author handled the romance, with just enough to keep you enticed and begging for more.
