A
uthor Andrew Gross has written in tandem with James Patterson, but he also has five books under his own name (
Eyes Wide Open
being his fifth), all of them well worth reading.
I
n the aftermath of a Charles Manson type slaughter, the murderers now have spent thirty-five years incarcerated. Most of them were in prison for life, while others served their time and were released back into society.
J
ay Erlich leaves his medical practice to fly across the country, after a call for help from his brother Charlie, who suffers from bipolarism. Unable to hold a job, Charlie is a ward of the state. His wife Gabby has stood beside him for years. But now, with their son Evan found dead at the bottom of a cliff, the two can't hold their lives together.
P
ronounced a suicide, Evan's case is considered closed until Jay finds scattered but definite clues that the young man's death might not have been suicide but something more sinister. This is where the plot really takes off and has readers holding their breath, afraid to turn a page but unable to resist finding out what comes next.
I
t's an intricate plot that does not disappoint. Suspense hangs over each page. Action vies with malice. Inexplicable deaths mar the scenes. There is manipulation to the highest degree. Evil permeates the air. And there's a dynamic ending. Get the feeling I liked
Eyes Wide Open
? Well, I sure did. You will also.
