he world as we know it has been torn asunder, and there are only two types of people left - the unchanged and the changed, the normal and the
haters
. The land has been destroyed and deserted in some areas, with governments, communities, hospitals, police and whatever is left totally torn apart. All that remains is mass violence and devastation. All that matters is which side you try to live on, and how hard you fight to survive.

unchanged
live in crowded cities, coping with starvation, lack of sanitation, and nowhere to live. Things are barely functional and all that keeps them alive is a strangely structured army. As the war continues to rage outside city walls, people are starting to get antsy, suspicious of everything - all they care about is that the enemy be destroyed.

changed
only believe in killing their enemies, and enjoying the strange euphoria they feel afterwards. But Danny isn't interested in the war; he only cares about finding his five-year-old daughter Ellis, who is
changed
like he is. However he doesn't realize the true importance of children like Ellis, who are strong, fast and unstoppable - and how they, the true
haters
, could help the new order.
W
hat a wild book! Though it gave me nightmares of its apocalyptic world, it does well in portraying both sides of the story, and is extremely well written, both description and action. Excellent.
