Sheriff Ike Schwartz is sure the accident involving his fiancée Ruth Harris was no accident. He's convinced it was deliberate. Why she was run off the road is the big question. She is in a coma, not responding. No one can tell him if she ever will.

Before he gets any answers, he comes up against State's Rights organizations, along with zealots and dissident academics.

He also has to deal with Ruth's mother, Eden Saint Claire, and his father's questionable assistance in running Ike's campaign for re-election. He gets help, though, from old friends and the patrons at the Crossroads Diner.

Author Frederick Ramsey is at home writing of murder and mayhem. He does it well. He also writes more than well of human emotions and motivations. Rogue is another winner for him.
