The discovery causes international as well as national interest. The Native American Heritage Commission wishes to claim what prove to be prehistoric remains. They also wish to claim the strange artifacts found at the same time – gold plates inscribed with what at first appears to be indecipherable script. While work progresses on the find, a fiery explosion kills an anthropologist while the world watches on television. A teenager survives the explosion, although she was there on a mission of her own. Blamed for the explosion, she calls on her uncle, Painter Crowe, Director of Sigma Force. Intelligence agencies bicker over who is to take over uncovering the cause of the explosion. Almost simultaneously, other explosions occur in Japan and on an island off the coast of Iceland. The explosions are far more deadly than volcanic eruptions. They seem to melt the earth around them and continue to do so in ever-widening circles. Could they be connected in any way? In the meantime, it is decided that the mummies are not Native American but Caucasian, possibly the lost tribe of Israel. And, of course, the gold is of interest to a number of organizations and individuals. And it's a stronger gold. One not known today. It seems that a secret cabal has been manipulating 'momentous events since the time of the original colonies'. The Devil Colony presents a fascinating what if scenario. Author James Rollins, at the end of this new Sigma Force episode, reveals what in his book is fact or fiction. Mostly fact, from what I could see. The science inserted in The Devil Colony left me behind, but I got the basic concept and enjoyed the story. This fantastical tale holds the reader in its thrall.
