Andrew Taylor ruined his chances of attending college because of his reckless behavior. His father sends him to England to spend his last year of high school at Harrow, the legendary school 'that has educated Britain’s elite for centuries.' This prestigious school also has the dubious honor of housing a ghost.

If Andrew messes up this last opportunity to advance himself, his father says he is through and Andrew will be on his own. He arrives at the school thinking it's a pretty spooky place, but he has to succeed.

He makes friends with a South American boy in the room next to his. He soon comes across the new friend being strangled by a strange, white-blond man. Andrew tells no one what he saw and he goes on to be chosen to play the poet Lord Byron in a school production, because he so resembles Byron.

Glad to be accepted, Andrew meets fellow student Persephone. She is an anomaly, in that Harrow is a boys' school. They become close.

Andrew soon finds his role in the play is not what it's supposed to be. Disturbing dreams fill his nights. Doing research on Byron, Andrew finds that a scholarship boy (spell that poor boy from town) named Harness fell under the protection of Byron and Byron soon took him for a lover. Andrew is forced to confront Harness in a fight for his life.

Author Justin Evans attended Harrow for a year as a boy and so can describe every nook and cranny of the school. And he does it well. He had me up late at night, unable to put the book down. His first book, A Good and Happy Child, has been described as 'offering a literary horror story that's deeply intelligent, beautifully written and seriously chilling.' I do hope another masterpiece is in the works.
