She insists that she's more than capable of taking care of herself; she's led hikers through the area dozens of times. As the storm intensifies, they both realize it would be best to seek shelter in a snow cave. The close proximity heats up their desire, but Sunny's the one to pull back. She knows that becoming involved with an outsider would risk her family's, and her village's safety. Once the storm blows over, Sunny decides to trek home on her own, despite Wade's warnings to wait for the rescue chopper. When she stumbles into a crevasse and discovers a cache of frozen bodies, she has no choice but to delay her return home. Wade wants to keep Sunny safe at his side while he and the authorities try figuring out how all those bodies ended up in the crevasse - and who's responsible. Sunny knows she needs to get home before things get even more complicated. The longer she's around Wade, however, the more she realises that going back to her tiny island would ruin her only chance at real love. But with killers hot on their trail, intent on guarding their secrets, Sunny and Wade may not live long enough to see the next sunrise. Mann does a good job showing how Pararescuemen work in all situations and in any part of the world. The fact that the story is set in Alaska adds even more immediacy and tension as Wade and his team must not only battle Sunny's tenuous and dangerous situation, but the elements as well. The romance that develops between Sunny and Wade is also believable, although Sunny guards her various secrets a bit longer than is prudent. As a whole though, Cover Me is a nice start to Mann's new series. 2nd Review by Wanda Plourde: Sunny Foster lives off the grid in Alaska, in a small community that lives off the land. She is a guide who takes people down through the mountain when they want to leave the area. Sunny is caught in a blizzard on her way back to her village. Wade Rocha gets a call to rescue mountain climbers caught in the blizzard. He works for the Pararescue special ops unit and danger is his middle name. As the helicopter drops him in to save a stranded person on the Aleutian island, he meets Sunny who insists that she can take care of herself. As the storm hits its peak, Sunny and Wade huddle in a cave together to survive. Sparks fly and heat builds between the two of them - they can barely resist the urge to keep warm in much more intimate ways. As they hike, Sunny falls into a cavern and discovers a heinous crime. She finds two bodies of friends of hers. Now unable to trust anyone, even the local police department, Sunny and Wade investigate. As the two work together, passion builds between them. I found this a very enjoyable book, definitely a page turner. Grips you right at the very beginning with non stop action. I love the characters.
