Dinah Perelin's best friend wants her to be maid of honor at her second wedding. Okay, sounds reasonable. But the wedding it to take place on the rim of a Hawaiian volcano! That could truly be a shaky proposition! Literally.

The bride's ex-husband is stalking her and things start to get prickly. The groom is hoping to sign on the dotted line with the deal that will set them up for life. He wants to develop land that the native Hawaiians claim as sacred.

The groom's late wife's sister, a Hawaiian of the old school, claims there are sacred bones on that land and they cannot be disturbed. The body of a volcanologist is found burned to death on a lava field. A member of the wedding party is shoved into a flow of molten lava, and a blackmailer goes about his dirty business.

A gun is stolen from the bride's hotel room. The groom has a suspicious past. And, for heaven's sake, small earthquakes are shaking the island. Of course, we have to have someone who sees the big picture. Dinah, who else? What more can one ask in a mystery?

If you as a reader are at all interested in Hawaii's history and language as well as its myths, this is the book for you. You will come away with a vast store of knowledge that will make you want to visit. How author Jeanne Matthews managed to give us all a history lesson without boring us shows true talent.

Bet Your Bones is a good choice for a summer read - be sure to take it with you when you book your flight to the islands.
