I have never been one to want to pick up a Western novel to read for fun, but reading graphic versions of Western novels and stories is definitely fun. Like its predecessors in the Graphic Classics series, Western Classics breathes new life into old stories.

The main story in Western Classics is a staple of the Western genre, an adaptation of Zane Grey's Riders of the Purple Sage. Cynthia Martin did a superb job bringing this classic to life in a standard comic book manner. Other standouts in the collection are Robert E. Howard's Knife River Prodigal for George Sellas' cartoony drawings; Bret Harte's The Right Eye of the Commander, a haunting story; and Willa Cather's El Dorado for the wonderful story and John Findley's nostalgic artwork.

Whether you are a fan of Westerns or not, give Western Classics a try. Western lovers will enjoy seeing favorites brought to vivid life and newbies to Westerns will enjoy this easy introduction to the genre.
