L
aney is not your average teenager with shiny hair and perfect skin, and with a body she dresses for approbation. She's skinny, awkward and with only the clothes that she can afford. She and thirty-five year old Delilah move in together in Delilah's house trailer. Better than living with a drunk for a mother. Laney wants nothing more than to have someone in her life to love her.
M
iss Baby lives in Texas. She is lonely, runs a tattoo parlor - and longs for love. When Donnie appears in her town and can't remember his life, she tells him he's her husband. Problem solved for both of them.
L
aney and Baby both tell their stories in their own voices. Their tales become more and more entwined until the connection becomes clear. Crime is the basis for the story of two women who both want Donnie.
T
his is an engrossing read. One that could keep you awake into the night.
Break the Skin
deals primarily with personalities and the lives of quiet desperation that many of us live. Well written.
