Sam Capra's life begins to fall apart after a bomb destroys his London workplace. Both Sam and his wife Lucy are CIA agents and since they were the only ones left standing, they are suspected of treason. Since Lucy is missing, Sam takes the heat for both of them.

He is shipped off to Poland where he is questioned and imprisoned for months. Even after waterboarding and other torture, Sam gives his interrogators nothing because he knows nothing. Not even where his pregnant wife is.

When he is finally released in New York City, the CIA finds him a job as a bartender. He is no longer an agent and he is still under suspicion of treason, but the company pretends to believe that only his wife was involved in the bombing.

Sam knows his new job is a setup and he is being used as bait to trap Lucy. Even though he is under constant surveillance by his former employer, he's almost murdered in his apartment by an unknown man. Tired of being a sitting duck, Sam escapes to Europe in a last ditch effort to find his wife and child. If Lucy did betray him and her country, he wants to know why.

With the help of a secret organization, Sam manages to stay one step ahead of the CIA. Following clues in his search for Lucy, he becomes involved with a group smuggling women and weapons to the US. The CIA gives orders that he be killed on sight, while the people he is working with will keep him alive only as long as he's useful to them.

Abbott's new novel provides everything you look for in a thriller. The main character is handsome, gutsy and sympathetic. Plus the stakes couldn't be higher for Sam's family and his country.
