Live Wire    by Harlan Coben Order:  USA  Can Dutton, 2011 (2011) Hardcover, CD, e-Book      Reviewed by Hilary Williamson Harlan Coben has long been high on my list of best mystery writers, though more for his standalones than his Myron Bolitar novels (of which I'd only prviously read Promise Me). Live Wire, which follows Long Lost as the tenth in the Bolitar series, has made me want to track down all the earlier ones that I missed. Myron Bolitar was once a basketball player with the Boston Celtics. He's now a high profile sports and entertainment agent, co-owner of MB Reps. His big heart and need to help people often get him into trouble. Fortunately, his best friend, the ultra-wealthy Windsor 'Win' Horne Lockwood III (who 'looked as though he'd just gone yachting on the SS Old Money'), always has his back. As Live Wire opens, Myron's fiancée Terese Collins is in Angola. An old friend/current client asks for Bolitar's help. The very pregnant Suzze Trevantino is a former bad girl tennis prodigy, now married to rock star Lex Ryder (half of the legendary HorsePower duo). Suzze has received a threatening picture comment on her Facebook page. And Lex has left her. When Myron seeks out Lex at the hip Three Downing bar, he catches a glimpse of his sister-in-law Kitty - he hadn't seen either Kitty or his estranged younger brother Brad for sixteen years, and last heard they were living in South America. As Myron starts digging, he uncovers as much about his own past as his client's. Then there's a death - the police think suicide but Myron suspects murder. As always, Coben delivers a convoluted and gripping plot, filled with surprises. But there are big changes ahead. Win makes a deal with the devil that changes his friendship with Myron forever. MB Reps is for sale. And Myron has a new relative in his life, who will certainly play a part in the continuing series. With its impulsive, goodhearted lead and the colorful characters (like Big Cyndi) who surround him, it's a thoroughly engaging one.
