W
hen mercenary Dare MacIntosh sweeps in to rescue a friend's sister from traffickers, he doesn't realise that his rescue of a fellow prisoner, Molly Alexander, will ultimately change his life. Once he gets her safely out of Mexico, the feisty suspense writer immediately hires him to find out who has a grudge against her.
A
t first Dare figures it's because Molly's the daughter of a wealthy businessman with his eye on the political ring. But why toss Molly over to unscrupulous flesh peddlers rather than demanding ransom? Various other leads don't pan out either and until Dare figures it all out, he has no intention of letting Molly out of his sight. But as their investigation continues, keeping his professional distance from the alluring Molly becomes increasingly difficult.
F
oster introduced Molly in
Ready, Set, Jet
, her contribution to the
Guy Next Door
anthology released earlier this year.
When You Dare
is the spin-off from that story and the first novel in Foster's
Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor
series.
W
hile the storyline, the leads and their romance are engaging, Foster's romantic suspense plot is rather generic. She also tends to overwrite scenes, which slows down the continuity of the story. The villain was easy to figure out and Dare's (the ultimate loner) falling for Molly so quickly didn't seem realistic either.
W
hen You Dare
is overall an good read and a competent lead in to
Trace of Fever
, which hits bookshelves shortly.
